Temporary Finance Assistant

I am recruiting on behalf of a 3rd sector organisation in the Pontypool area. My client is seeking an experienced candidate to join their team of 4 on a 6-month temporary basis. The successful candidate will be tasked with making sure that the accounting and related services for the school support function are provided, and that all financial MI is prepared and presented in a timely and accurate manner for the organisations internal and external customers.

The key purpose of this post is to assist in the management of individual Schools budgets by providing the full range of financial management services to Schools (including Governing Bodies). This will include estimate preparation, closure of accounts, provision of financial monitoring information as well as providing advice on financial administration and on financial systems & procedures, where necessary.

The main responsibilities will include –

  • Monitor the financial position of primary, secondary and special schools
  • Prepare detailed budget forecasts for schools and to provide associated advice and support to schools and their governing bodies
  • Support schools in the budget setting process
  • Support schools in the closure of accounts process
  • Ensure that financial advice provided to primary, secondary and special schools is innovative and quality driven and:
  • is responsive to customer needs and service requirements,
  • demonstrates clear corporate direction and style,
  • achieves effectiveness and efficiency in operation.
  • Deliver training, as required, for financial administration and financial systems
  • Provide Financial Systems advice to schools
  • Ensure that all tasks that the post is responsible for are undertaken with due recognition of best practice and prevailing accounting standards.
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of IT both within the Financial Services, and the service area.
  • Undertake any other duty that may reasonably be requested by the Director.

This role will ideally suit an AAT studier or PQ who is keen to make a difference within a 3rd sector organisation and who is looking to work collaboratively as part of a small team.

The organisation operates both a flexible and hybrid working pattern, with just 1 – 2 days per week in the office

The core working hours are Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5pm & Friday 8.30 – 4.30pm.

There will be occasional travel required to local school sites

The successful candidate will possess intermediate Excel skills to include Pivots and VLookUps.  You will be easily able to prioritise your workload and have a logical, systematic approach to problem solving. In addition to this you will be an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills, as well as being a self-motivated individual who can act on their own initiative.
